Mahonia x 'Winter Sun' (mahonia)

Height: 10 feet
Spread: 5 feet
Light: Full sun to shade
Soil: Prefers a well-drained soil, but will tolerate sandy sites and clay
Description: This leatherleaf Mahonia is hybrid of two asian species, Mahonia lomariifolia and Mahonia japonica. 'Winter Sun' is a tough plant that provides interest and structure all year long. Leaves develop in whorls along coarsely branched stems. Spires of yellow flowers appear in late fall or early winter. Fruit forms in grape-like clusters of wax-coated black berries by late summer and autumn. If you're worried about your plant spreading, remove seeds as they emerge.
