Lindera strychnifolia (Japanese Spicebush)

Height: 8-10 feet
Spread: 4-5 feet
Light: Part shade to shade.
Soil: Amended, moist but well-drained soil.
Description: Evergreen shrub with very distinctive glossy, round, deeply veined leaves. Maintains a dense, upright habit – great for screening. Rarely offered in the retail trade! Root is used in traditional Asian medicine. Creamy yellow flowers in spring give way to black berries in fall. Plants are either male or female and require pollination in order to fruit. Great screen or hedge. Planting in mass increases likelihood of fruit.
