Cotinus coggygria 'Black Velvet' (Black Velvet Smoke Bush)

Height: 15-20 feet
Spread: 10-15 feet
Light: Full to part sun. Best color in more sun.
Soil: Amended, moist but well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established.
Description: Deciduous tree with an upright, bushy habit. Round, dark purple leaves hold color well despite our hot summers. Foliage blushes gold, red, and purple in fall. In midsummer, the tree is covered in small, dark pink flowers that look like smoke against the darker foliage. Specimen. Pairs well with blue and chartreuse, especially conifers.
