Corylus avellana 'Contorta' (Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick, European Filbert)

Height: 12-15 feet
Spread: 6-8 feet
Light: Sun to partial sun
Soil: Average, well-drained soil.
Description: Large green leaves emerge twisted and puckered on stems that are also twisty and curled. Deciduous.
3-inch yellow catkins (male flowers) dangle from bare branches in late winter. Occasionally produces filbert nuts. Definitely a specimen shrub! Our plants aren’t grafted, so no need to worry about understock sprouting straight branches.
