Aspidistra elatior (Cast Iron Plant)

Height: 2 feet
Spread: 2 feet
Light: Shade to partial shade
Soil: Tolerates dry, poor soil.
Description: Commonly used as a houseplant in the Victorian era because of its ability to withstand low light and poor air quality, this plant was practically a starring character in George Orwell’s 1936 novel "Keep the Aspidistra Flying." Aspidistra grows in deep shade to partial shade, poor soils and dry conditions. It is shiny, evergreen, and provides good texture and structure. Easy to grow, hard to kill. If you have dry shade, you need this plant. Lots of it!
