Acanthus mollis (Bear's Breeches)

Height: 36 to 60 inches
Spread: 48 inches
Light: Part sun to part shade
Soil: Moist well-drained soil.
Description: Herbaceous perennial characterized by deeply-serrated, glossy green foliage that forms a large clump over time. Tall, snapdragon-like spires of pinkish white flowers top the plant in summer. May seed if flowers are not removed after blooming. Great in containers or in large drifts in the garden. Spreads by rhizomes so place barriers to control growth.

Leaves were model for Corinthian leaf motif in ancient Greek and Roman art and architecture.
